In collaboration with the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and through the generous support of our donors, the ADHA Institute for Oral Health provides thousands of dollars each year to advance the profession of dental hygiene through scholarship, research and service!

Research Grants

  • IOH General Research Grant Program

    The IOH Research Grant Program supports advancements in the dental hygiene field through the discovery and application of knowledge which includes original research, developmental prospects, and qualitative and quantitative research. Donations to this fund provide direct support for Research Grants.

Scholarship Funds

  • Alice Hinchcliffe Williams, RDH, MS Merit Scholarship

    The scholarship is funded by the Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association Foundation to honor their deceased colleague and benefactor who helped to establish the VDHA Foundation. It is awarded to a student who is a resident of Virginia.

  • Alice M. & Herschel S. Horowitz Scholarship

    The purpose of this scholarship is to support dental hygienists to pursue a career in public health. This scholarship will be awarded annually to an applicant who is enrolled in or accepted in an MPH, DrPH or PhD (in public health) program in an accredited school of public health.

  • Burch Scholarship for Equity-Centered Leadership
    This scholarship is awarded to a licensed dental hygienist, from a population group that is marginalized or underrepresented in dental hygiene seeking higher education to career pathways to impact social determinants of health and advance health equity.

  • Carol Bauhs Benson Scholarship

    The scholarship was established in memory of Carol Bauhs Benson. It is awarded to a student pursuing an Associate degree and who resides in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.

  • Diann Bomkamp Leadership Scholarship

    This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene in the State of Missouri, and who is a leader in their Student ADHA Chapter. The applicant should also be an active volunteer in their community.

  • Dr. Esther Wilkins Scholarship

    The scholarship was established by Dr. Esther Wilkins. It is awarded to students pursuing additional degrees necessary for a career in dental hygiene education.

  • General Scholarship Fund

    ADHA’s Institute for Oral Health Scholarship Program develops dental hygienists’ access to educational programs. Scholarships help offset tuition costs for dental hygiene students and dental hygienists who demonstrate a commitment to advance the profession. Donations may be made to the General Scholarship Fund or one of the specific scholarships listed below.

  • Irene Woodall Graduate Scholarship
    The scholarship is in honor of Irene Woodall. It is awarded to a student seeking a graduate degree in dental hygiene or a related field.

  • Sigma Phi Alpha Scholarship

    The scholarship is awarded to outstanding students a school with an active chapter of the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society. The student may be a potential future Sigma Phi Alpha member or a current member in good standing.

  • Wilma Motley Scholarship
    The scholarship was established in memory of Wilma E. Motley. It is awarded to a student pursuing a baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene.

Community Service Grants

  • Healthy Start for Texas Teeth Community Service Grant

    The Healthy Start for Texas Teeth Community Service Grant fosters collaborative efforts between individuals or local components of the Texas Dental Hygienists’ Association and community agencies servicing underserved populations to provide the preventive benefits of fluoride varnish for underserved populations.

  • Rosie Wall Community Service Grant

    The community service grant was established in honor of Rosie Wall. This program provides funding for a specific community health or research project which includes health education.
