Dental hygienists perform comprehensive oral cavity examinations and are therefore in a critically important position to be able to detect oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). This webinar will provide an overview of the clinical features of OSCC and OPMDs, best practices for examining the oral cavity and identifying potentially concerning features, and how to refer patients with suspicious/concerning oral lesions for further evaluation and diagnosis.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be familiar with the phenotypic/clinical characteristics of OSCC and OPMDs.
  • Understand how comprehensive oral examination can assist in early detection of OSCC and OPMDs.
  • Recognize the importance of establishing efficient and effective referral pathways.
