Therapeutic Behavioral Counseling for Early Childhood Caries

February 15th 6:00pm-7:00pm Central Time. ADHA members/subscribers: free, non-members: $25.

Therapeutic Caries Counseling (TCC) is a formal clinical approach to preventing and suppressing caries experience in young children. TCC may complement or supplant traditional restorative approaches while fulfilling American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s call for “non-surgical interventions…to postpone or reduce the need for surgical treatment.” This webinar will build on the science behind early childhood caries to advance understanding of TCC as clinical approach relevant to dental hygiene practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Distinguish oral health from dental care and identify leading contributors to oral health of young children.
  • Describe the problem of early childhood caries (ECC) in the U.S. in terms of prevalence, consequence, and disparities.
  • Recognize Therapeutic Caries Counseling as a behavioral theory based pragmatic approach to ECC management that complements traditional surgical care and is amenable to dental hygiene practice.
