Course Description: This course explores professionalism and ethics in dental hygiene, emphasizing how daily behaviors, decisions, and attitudes shape patient trust, team dynamics, and career longevity. Participants will examine what professionalism truly looks like beyond “just doing the job,” differentiate ethical and unethical workplace behaviors, and review common ethical challenges faced in clinical practice. Through real life scenarios and guided discussion, learners will apply ethical decision making principles to situations involving patient safety, confidentiality, scope of practice, and professional responsibility. The course concludes with reflective activities designed to help dental hygienists consider their values and create a personal vision for the kind of professional they aspire to be.

2. Leadership as a Dental Hygienist

Presented by: Tammy L. Filipiak RDH, MS, FADHA

Course Description: This module explores leadership beyond titles, emphasizing the impact of everyday actions in clinical care and team settings. Dental hygienists will learn to identify leadership behaviors, lead from any seat, and assess their own leadership qualities. The course encourages reflection and growth through self-assessment tools and insights from admired leaders. Topics include redefining leadership roles, recognizing influence in patient care, and cultivating professional presence. Key takeaways include strategies for personal leadership development, tips for modeling leadership in clinical practice, and access to resources such as leadership frameworks and reflection guides. Participants will leave empowered to lead with confidence, regardless of position or title.

3. Initiative and Self-Motivation

Presented by: Tia S. Meyer, RDH, FADHA

Course Description: This module explores the essential role of initiative and self-motivation in dental hygiene practice. Students will learn how proactive thinking, personal accountability, and internal drive directly impact patient care, clinical efficiency, and professional growth. Through real-world scenarios and reflective strategies, this course emphasizes the importance of showing up with intention, taking ownership of patient outcomes, and developing the habits that lead to long-term success in dentistry. Learners will be encouraged to build confidence through action and embrace a mindset of continuous improvement—one day at a time.
