Course Description: This course explores practical, ethical, and evidence-informed ways dental hygiene educators can integrate generative AI into teaching and learning. Participants will discover how AI tools can support course design, content development, case-based learning, assessment creation, clinical reasoning activities, assignments, and rubric development while maintaining faculty oversight and academic integrity. Through real-world examples drawn from dental hygiene education, learners will examine strategies for enhancing student engagement, promoting critical thinking, and creating meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for clinical practice. The course emphasizes thoughtful AI integration as a tool to improve efficiency, support instructional design, and strengthen student learning outcomes without replacing the expertise and judgment of the educator.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe foundational concepts of generative AI and its emerging role in dental hygiene and health professions education.
• Design AI-assisted prompts to create case-based learning activities, clinical reasoning exercises, and formative assessments.
• Analyze ethical considerations, academic integrity concerns, and limitations associated with AI-generated educational content.
• Integrate generative AI tools into curriculum planning and course development while maintaining evidence-based, student-centered instructional practices.
