Course Description: In this session, your ADHA Officers will delve into the multidimensional concept of autonomy within the dental hygiene profession. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of personal autonomy, practice autonomy, and professional autonomy, exploring their interconnectedness and relevance in promoting ethical and effective dental hygiene care, increased workplace satisfaction, creating attractive work environments, and meaningfulness of work.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define personal autonomy and its application in both personal and professional contexts, emphasizing the importance of aligning decisions with personal values and goals.
  • Explain the three foundational components of self-determination and describe how they contribute to personal and professional autonomy.
  • Analyze the role of professional autonomy in fostering innovation, job satisfaction, and professional growth.
  • Evaluate how autonomy influences the evolution and recognition of dental hygiene as a critical component of integrated healthcare.
